The Walters State Lady Senator volleyball team accomplished a couple of feats on Saturday afternoon. First, they reached 20 wins on the season, but more importantly, they earned the NJCAA Region VII Championship with a 3-0 sweep of Cleveland State. Scores for the three sets were 25-12, 25-23, and 25-20.
With the championship, the Lady Senators will travel to Brunswick Community College to compete in the NJCAA District P Tournament with the winner advancing to the National Tournament in charleston, West Virginia the weekend of Nov. 16-18. Other teams competing in the tournament will come from Region XIII and Region X. Region XIII represents teams from Florida while Region X encompasses the Carolinas and Virginia and the souther part of West Virginia.
Walters State, 20-2 on the season, was led by setter Abby Higgins who was named the TCCAA Most Valuable Player. She totaled 13 assists in the match.
Cleveland State finished 15-6 in their inaugural season.
