L.Quentin Lane, retired Commissioner of the TCCAA was honored during the recent TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Basketball tournament. Dr. Lane, who became Commissioner in 1999, was awarded the status of Commissioner Emeritus. Dr. Lane (left) receives the award from Dr. Carl Hite, Cleveland State Community College President.

Below is the text from the whereas document drafted by the Presidents of the 10 Community Colleges. This document and a photo of Dr. Lane will be displayed in the TCCAA Hall of Fame.

Whereas: Dr. L. Quentin Lane has been an advocate and supporter of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association for over 30 years; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane was inducted into the Tennessee Junior and Community College Hall of Fame in 1999; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane was selected to become the Commissioner of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association in 1999, a position he held until his retirement in 2009; and

Whereas:During Dr. Lane’s service as Commissioner of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association he attended all state and Region VII tournaments; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane was responsible for the concept, development and implementation of the first TJCCAA website; and

Whereas: Athletic directors, coaches and associated staff all noted Dr. Lane to be an impartial leader who sought the best for each institution and for the conference as a whole; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane always facilitated a great cooperative working relationship with athletic directors and college presidents; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane not only provided sound leadership, he distinguished himself as a friend and colleague to administrators, athletic directors, coaches and staff; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane not only encouraged quality athletic competition, he strongly emphasized sportsmanship and academic achievement; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane advocated the induction of TJCCAA coaches into the National Hall of Fame; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane served on the selection committee and is a strong supporter of the TJCCAA Hall of Fame; and

Whereas: Dr. Lane distinguished himself in honoring the achievements of all athletic teams in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association and NJCAA Region VII;

Be it resolved, that on this day, the 6th of March, Two thousand and Nine, Dr. L. Quentin Lane has earned the status of Commissioner Emeritus of the Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association.
