Jerry Hammons, a freshman infielder from Walters State was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week for the past week. A graduate od Farragut High School in Knoxville, Hammons appeared in all three games in the season opening series as the Senators traveled to USC-Salketchie. Then Senators took all three games by scores of 18-1, 14-1, and 11-5.
Hammons started at second base in all three games. He had 7 hits in 11 official bats, a .636 batting average for the series. He had two doubles and two home runs with nine RBIs. He also reached base by a walk and being hit by a pitch. He also scored eight runs in the series. For the three games, he had a .694 on base percentage with a 1.364 slugging percentage.
