The Walters State volleyball team went undefeated this season in region play as they defeated Chattanooga State this past week in a contested 3-0 sweep. With the win, the Lady Senators saw their league record go to 4-0 and their overall record rise to 18-7. They also earned the #1 seed in the NJCAA Region VII Tournament which will be held October 26-27 at Cleveland State. The Lady Senators also received recognition as they rose in the NJCAA National Poll.
In the clinching win over the Lady Tigers, the Lady Senators took the first game by a 25-21 final. They scored the final four points after Chattanooga had squared the match at 21 all. The second match went a little easier as the Lady Senators took it by a 25-13 final. The thrid match was a hotly contested affair. Walters would jump out to a solid lead, but Chattanooga made a push to even the match and take a 24-23 lead. The Lady Senators would close out the sweep as they scored the next three points for a 26-24 final.
Chattanooga saw it's league record even at 2-2 with an overall record of 11-7 in their first season of competition. They will be the #2 seed going into the tournament. Cleveland will be the #3 seed as their league record dropped to 0-4 with an overall record of 9-13 going into final week of play.
The schedule for next week's tournament will have Chattanooga and Cleveland playing at 6pm on Friday night with the winner taking on Walters Saturday afternoon at 2pm for the championship. The naming of the All-Conference team will be made prior to the start of the championship match.
