TCCAA announces 2024-25 Men's Basketball Awards, All-Conference Teams

 

The Tennessee Community College Athletic Association announced their men's basketball awards and all-conference teams for the 2024-25 season on Sunday during the TCCAA/Region 7 Basketball Tournament at Southwest Tennessee. 

 

Volunteer State's Taylor Groves was named the TCCAA Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year while Southwest Tennessee's Jean Yvens Lafleur was named the TCCAA Defensive Player of the Year. Volunteer State's Johnny Lynn was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year. 

 

Groves earned the honors after a fantastic first season at Volunteer State. Groves averaged 19.5 points, 6.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game. Groves was second in the conference in points per game, first in assists per game and 13th in rebounds per game. Groves was also first in the conference in field goals made with 185 and third in the conference in steals with 60.

 

Groves scored 30+ points in four games this year and 20+ points in 11 games. Groves' best game of the season came against Motlow State, when he recorded a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Groves scored double-digits in every game during the regular season and had five double-doubles. 

 

The Defensive Player of the Year, Yvens Lafleur led the conference with 102 blocks and was second in rebounds per game with 9.1. Yvens Lafleur pulled in 152 defensive rebounds on the season and had 13 games with double-digit rebounds. Yvens Lafleur's best game on the defensive end came against Volunteer State when he had 18 rebounds, 12 defensive, and eight blocks. 

 

Lynn was named the Coach of the Year in his second season in charge at Volunteer State. Lynn led his Pioneers to a 13-5 record in TCCAA play and a tie for second place finish. The 13 wins in conference play is a nine-win improvement from last season. 

 

Making All-TCCAA First Team were Volunteer State's Groves, Roane State's Walter Campbell and Marcus Black, Columbia State's Thaddeus "Trey" Johnson III and Anthony "Mahki" Wright, Motlow State's Tristin Fleming, Southwest Tennessee's Alex Vandenbergh and Yvens Lafleur and Walters State's Aiden Goins and Da'Mori Lytch. 

 

Making All-TCCAA Second Team were Motlow State's Anfernee Hanna, Jackson State's Jamarion Harvey and Rodgerick Robinson Jr, Chattanooga State's Yearld Mieses, Odell Bradley IV and Janerus Snipe, Roane State's Jahiem Berry, Cleveland State's Jeremiah Hayes, Volunteer State's Lavonta Ivery and Pellissippi State's Jonathan Caicedo.
