TCCAA/NJCAA REGION VII TOURNEY SET FOR FRIDAY AT VOL STATE
The TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII men and women's basketball tournaments is set to get underway on Friday, March 6, and run through Tuesday ,Marh 10. Six opening round games are set for Friday with three games on both the men and women's side.
Both teams from Walters State earned the #1 seeds in the tournament. The men's team finished with a conference record of 19-1 while the women's team finished with a perfect 20-0 record in conference play.
The men will get things started at 10am when the #8 seed Jackson State will play #9 seed and host Volunteer State. The noon matchup wil have the #7 seed Pellissippi State taking on #10 seed Dyersburg State, and in the 2pm game it will be the #6 seed Cleveland State facing #11 seed Southwest Tennessee. The winners will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday with games starting at noon.
The top five teams in the conference advance to the quarterfinals. Walters State will play the winner of the 8/9 matchup in the noon game. Columbia State, the #2 seed, will face the winner of the 7/10matchup at 4pm. Roane State is seeded third and faces the 6/11 matchup winner at 6pm. The #4 seed Chattanooga State will face #5 see Jackson State in the 2pm game.
The winners of the quarterfinals will move onto the semifinals which will be held on Monday with game times set for noon and 2pm. The championship game will be at 2pm on Tuesday.
The women will start their side of the tournament on Friday with the first game starting at 4pm. That game will see the #8 seed Pellissippi State facing #9 seed Southwest Tennessee. The 6pm game will see #7 seed Cleveland State matched up with #10 seed and host Volunteer State. The final game of the day will see #6 seed Chattanooga State taking on #11 Roane State. The winners will advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday.
As in the men, the top five seeds advanced to the quarterfinals. Top seed Walters State will face the winner of the 8/9 game at noon. The 2pm game will see #4 seed Motlow State taking on #5 seed Jackson State. The 4pm matchup will see #2 seed Dyersburg State facing the 7/10 winner, and the final matchup will have #3 seed Columbia State and the 6/11 winner at 6pm.
The winners will advance to their semis to be held at 4 & 6pm on Monday with the championship game being held at 4pm on Tuesday.
Also, between the second and third game of each quarterfinal day, the TCCAA will make the presentation of the All-TCCAA regular season teams as well as special awards for Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Offensive & Defensive Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.
