WALTERS SUFFERS FIRST LOSS AT WORLD SERIES

Walters saw an early lead vanish against Cowley as their opponents scored 11 runs between the sixth and seventh inning to defeat the Senators by a 16-8 final.  Walters will play Central Arizona today with the winner facing Cowley on Saturday to be crowned the 2022 NJCAA Dvision I Wold Series Champion.

The Senators built an 8-3 lead after two innings of play as they scored four runs in each inning.  Caleb McNeely led off the first inning with a home run, followed by a single by Nick Block.  Colby Backus would walk before Noah Gent would belt a three run home run for a 4-1 lead after one inning.  Cowley would cut it to 4-3 in the top of the second, but Walters would load the bases in the bottom of the inning with walks to Block, Backus, and Gent.  Kory Klingenbeck would double to score Block and Backus, and then Dalton McClain would single to score Gent and Klingenbeck to push their lead to 8-3.  Cowley would sccore two more runs in the third, and then tie the contest with three more runs in the sixth inning.  They would put the game away with eight runs in the seventh inning.  

The Senators had only six hits in the game with Block banging out two singles.  Joey Mitchell, the fourth pitcher used by the Senators, took the loss.  Walters used six pitcher in the game as they gave up the 16 runs (13 earned) while allowing 16 hits to go with nine walks.  They had eight strikeouts.
