WALTERS FINISHES THIRD AT WORLD SERIES
The Walters State Senators saw their season come to a close one game from playing for a national championship as Central Arizona scored four runs in the late innings to pull out a 7-4 victory. The teams were tied going after five innings, but Central Arizona would put up single runs in the sixth and seventh with two more runs in the eight to eliminate the Senators. Walters finishes the season with a 60-7 overall record.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Walters broke through with two runs. Colby Backus would lead off with a triple, and score on a RBI groundout by Kory Klingenbeck. Andrew Ott and Dalton McClain would each single, and then move up on a passed ball before Ott would race home on a Caleb Marmo sac fly. Central Arizona would take the lead in the fifth, but Walters would tie the game on a Nick Block home run in the bottom of the inning. Trailing 7-3 going into the last inning, Marmo would score the final run when he led off with a home run.
The Senators had nine hits in the game with Block adding a single to his home run as the only player with multiple hits. Geo Rivera got the start and took the loss. He went six innings, surrendering five earned runs on six hits with two walks and ten strikeouts. Landon Crumbley pitched the final three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
