SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE, COLUMBIA GO UNDEFEATED IN FIRST WEEK OF CONFERENCE PLAY
The opening weekend of conference play in baseball saw Southwest Tennessee sweep Motlow in their 3-game series while Columbia took a doubleheader from Dyersburg on Friday before weather cancelled the third game of the series. Both teams were the only to go through the weekend undefeated.
In the Southwest and Motlow series, Southwest took a doubleheader sweep on Friday by 5-4 and 13-3 scores before outscoring Motlow 16-15 in the Saturday finale. Columbia took the Friday doubleheader from Dyersburg by scores of 12-1 and 8-6.
Pellissippi and Cleveland both stand at 2-1 as Pellissippi beat Walters 2-1 and 2-0 in the doubleheader while Walters took the first game of the series 11-0. Cleveland took the first game of the series versus Roane by a 16-6 final before splitting the doubleheaer; winning the first game 7-5 before Roane won the second by a 3-1 final.
Volunteer and Chattanooga split their doubleheader on Friday with Chattanooga winning the first game 10-2, and Volunteer winning the nightcap 9-1. Inclement weather canceeled the third game on Saturday.
Jackson State was the odd team out this weekend, but went 1-1 on the weekend against non-conference foes, losing to Lincoln Land 2-0 before defeating Jackson College 14-3 in games played in Millington, Tennessee.
