WALTERS STATE SEEDED #1 FOR WORLD SERIES; FACES EASTERN OKLAHOMA IN FIRST ROUND
The Walters State Senator baseball team received the top seed going into the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series in Grand Junction (CO) starting Saturday, May 24, at Sam Suplizio Field. They will face Eastern Oklahoma in the first round with game time schedule for 2pm EDT.
The Senators currently are the top ranked team in the NJCAA with a 55-6-1 overall record. They advanced to the tournament with a sweep of Georgia Highlands in the Appalachian District Playoff last week in Morristown. Eastern Oklahoma enters as the South Central District champion from Region II.
The Senators have a .389 team batting average and have scored 733 runs this season. As a team, they have hit 125 home runs on the season. They are led by Tyler Myatt who has a .497 btting verage with 96 hits. He has 16 doubles and 29 home runs and has 104 RBIs. Five other Senators have reached double figures in home runs starting with Jack Vogele with 18 round trippers. Taylor Harris has 14 dingers, and Holden Pantier has 12. Carson Cabbage and Nate Conner eac have ten. Vogele has 89 RBIs, followed by Pantier (65), Harris (68), Kole Fenton (55), and Cabbage (50).
The Waalters pitching staff has a 4.28 ERA with 531 strikeouts and 190 walks in 435 innings pitched. They are led Aiden Roberson, who has an 11-1 record with a 3.39 ERA. He has 155 ks in 77 innings pitched. Gage Peterson has a 9-2 record with a 3.04 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings pitched. Morgan Walker is 8-0 with a 3.69 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched.
Eastern Oklahome enters the event with a 31-25 overall record. They have a team batting average of .265 with 424 runs scored. As a team they have hit 56 home runs. Their pitching staff has a 5.29 ERA with 309 strikeouts and 266 walks in 452 2/3 innings pitched.
The winner will advance to face the winner of the Johsnon County/ McLennan contest. that game will be played on Monday at 8pm EDT.
