WALTERS STATE ADVANCES TO DISTRICT BY WINNING REGION TOURNEY

The Senators of Walters State advanced this past week to the Appalachian District Championship by coming by forcing a second championship game to defeat Columbia State 5-2 on Saturday evening. 

Walters would lose 8-7 to the Chargers on Friday, but advanced by defeating Chattanooga State 11-3 later that day.  In the first championship game on Saturday, the Senators exploded for a 22-4 win to force the second game.

Columbia would take a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Jordan Akins would drive in two runs with an RBI single.  Walters would respind with one run in the bottom of the inning as Holden Pantier would plate a run with a double.

The Senators would take the lead in the fifth inning as Kole Fenton had a two run home run followed later by a double by Kenny Cos for a 4-2 lead.  They would add an insurance run in the 7th inning on a Drew Blalock home run.

Walters had seven hits Fenton and Blalock each collecting two hits.  Fenton would score two runs with Hayden Blair, Brady Dalton, and Blalock each scoring once.  

Justin Bell earned the win in relief as he wenth three innings.  He gave up only one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.  Tim Tyler earned the save as he went the final 3 1/3 innings, only surrendering one hit with eight strikeouts.

Columbia had nine hits with Holden Warmath and Ashton Kemp each with two hits.  They both scored the runs on Akins single. Will Rhodes took the loss on the mound as he went4 1/3 innings as he surrendered three runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Walters will now travel to Georiga Highlands for the Appalachian District.  The best of three series begins on the 12th with game times set for 1pm EDT each day.
