PELLISSIPPI STATE MEN'S SOCCER WINS ATLANTIC DISTRICT; EARNS NATIONAL TORUNAMENT BERTH

The Pellissippi State Men's Soccer team made some history as they earned a national tournament berth and the NJCAA Atlantic District Championship in their first season of eligibility for post season action.  They defeated NJCAA Region X Champion Cape Fear by a 3-1 final.

The Panthers saw themselvess down by a 1-0 score at the endw of the first half, but scored three goals in the second half to win the match which was played in a large crowd at Knox Catholic High School.  They will now advance to play in the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship to be held November 17th thru the 23rd in Huntsville (AL) at John Hunt Park and Joe Davis Stadium.

After trailing from the 44th minute of the first half, the Panthers wosuld even the score at the 58 th minute when Alejandro Mina would find the back of the net.  They would take the lead nine minutes later at the 67th minute when Felipe Coelho would score on a penalty kick on an assist from Mina.  Mina would score the final goal unassisted at the 71st minute to increase the lead.  Goalkeeper Lizandro Moredel would be "between the pipes" for the whole match with two saves and the one goal allowed as Cape Fear only hat 3 shots on goal.

Announcement of playing times and seeding will be announced by the NJCAA when all of the District Tournaments are completed by the end of next week.

The Pnthers overall record currently stands at 11-1-2.  They are currently receiving votes for the NJCAA Division II National Poll.
