TCCAA announces Softball Special Awards, All-TCCAA Teams
CHATTANOOGA, TN – The TCCAA announced their Softball Special Awards and All-TCCAA Teams on Thursday.
Volunteer State's Lydia Kirby was named the TCCAA Player of the Year for the second straight year, while Chattanooga State's Olivia Laney was named the TCCAA Pitcher of the Year. Chattanooga State's Blythe Golden was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year.
Kirby earned the honor for the second straight year after a strong sophomore campaign. Kirby hit .438 with 12 home runs and 96 RBIs. Kirby was first in the conference in hits and RBIs and second in batting average and total bases.
Kirby is tied for second in the country in RBIs and has driven in four or more runs in six games this season.
Laney was named the TCCAA Pitcher of the Year after going a perfect 16-0 on the season. Laney threw 104 innings and had a 0.94 ERA with 169 strikeouts. Laney was first in the conference in strikeouts and ERA and second in wins. She's fifth in the country in ERA.
Laney threw two no-hitters and a perfect game on the season and had nine games with double-digit strikeouts.
The Coach of the Year for the eighth time, Golden earned the award after leading Chattanooga State to a 28-0 record in the conference. The Lady Tigers went 44-7 overall and won the TCCAA regular season title. Chattanooga State is currently ranked No. 14 in the country.
Earning All-TCCAA First Team were Chattanooga State's Olivia Laney and Olivia Steinorth at pitcher, Volunteer State's Lydia Kirby at catcher. Volunteer State's A'miyah Collier, Walters State's Alayna Ross, Roane State's Alexis Morrison and Chattanooga State's Laylah Turner and Addison Keef in the infield, Jackson State's Jocelyn Lee as the utility player, Motlow State's Haylee Hobby at designated player and Chattanooga State's Abigail Ferguson, Columbia State's Jayla Davenport, Volunteer State's Anna Harrison and Walters State's Addison Beech in the outfield.
On All-TCCAA Second Team were Volunteer State's Brooklyn Levin and Walters State's Emma Myatt at pitcher, Walters State's Jaelyn McDaniel at catcher, Volunteer State's Mikayla Fuqua and Eryca Abbott, Chattanooga State's Brooke Watson, Walters State's Randi Delong and Dyersburg State's Chole Jones in the infield, Chattanooga State's Makenzie Woodall as the utility player, Jackson State's Brea Martin as the designated player and Walters State's Kendal Mason, Southwest Tennessee's Jasmine Roach, Chattanooga State's Briley Bruns and Jackson State's Graice Ausley in the outfield.
