LADY SENATORS RECEIVE FIRST ROUND BYE; SEEDED 8TH FOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

The seedings were announced for the upcoming NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship scheduled to start on March 24th in St. Charles (LA).  Walters State recieved the #8 seed going into the tournament and will recieve a bye into the second round where they will face the winner of the game between State Fair (#9 seed) and Central Georgia Tech (#24 seed).  The Lady Senators will not play until Friday, March 27, at 11:00am EDT. against that winner.

Walters currently sits with a 27-2 overall record and is ranked 4th in the latest national poll.   They are averaging 82.9 points a game while giving up only 49.1 points a contest.  They are 44.7% from the field which includes connecting on 30.4% of their shots from behind the 3-point line.  They shoot 68.2% from the free throw line.  The squad pulls down 46.6 rebounds a contest and dishes out 17.9 assists a game.  Defensively, the team averages 14.5 steals an 2.6 blocks in a game.

They are led by Terryauna Griffin who is averaging 21.2 points a game.  She is followed by Nyjah Gibbs at 16.7 and Reagan Starks at 12.5 points a contest.  Malon Smith is next at 9.7 points in a game.  Smith is the team assist leader at 6.7 assists a game, and Maliah Wilcox is next with 3.8 a contest.  Anaya Mulholland-Natt passes out 2.3 a game.

Starks and Gibbs lead the team in rebounding with 8.8 and 8.5 boards a game.  Smith is next at 5.5 a game.  Smith is also the leader in steals with 3.2 a contest followed by Griffin (2.7) and Wilcox (2.5).  Gibbs is the team leaders in blocks, averaging 0.8 a game.  Griffin is next at 0.6 a contest.

State Fair is currently ranked 6th in the latest national poll with a 27-1 overall record.  They were the NJCAA Region XVI Runner-up and recieved one of the eight at-large bids into the tournament.  Central Georgia Tech has a 21-7 overall record and was the NJCAA Region XVII Champion.  They will play in the first round on March 25 to determine who will play the Lady Senators.

The tournament is being held at the Townsley Law Center on the campus of McNeese State University.
