WALTERS' GRIFFIN NAMED NJCAA FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN; GIBBS AND COLUMBIA'S MELTON ALSO RECOGNIZED

The NJCAA announced the student ahtletes who made the NJCAA Division I All-American teams last week.  Walters State's Terryauna Griffin was named to the first team while her teammate Nyjah Gibbs was named to the third team.  Columbia State's Lily Melton was named honorable mention.

Griddin, a sophomore, was named the TCCAA Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and an All-TCCAA First Team Member.   She averaged 21.2 points per game this past season.  She conneted on 42.8% of her shots from the field which included 29.8% from behind the 3-point line.  She was good on 72.5% of here free throws and averaged 4.9 rebounds a contest.  She averaged 1.5 assists and 2.7 steals a game, and had 18 blocks on the season.

Gibbs, a sophomore, was named an All-TCCAA First Team member and the TCCAA/NJCAA Region 7 Tournament MVP.  She averaged 16.5 points per game.  She shot 52.6% from the field, 71.1% from the free throw line.   She collected 8.5 rebounds a contest.  She averaged 1.2 assists and 1.4 steals a game.  She had 24 blocks on the season.

Melton, a sophomore, was a First Team All-TCCAA this past season.  She averaged 19.5 points a game this season.  She was good on 43.5% of her shots from the field which included 22.5% from behind the 3-point line.  She connected on 73.6% of her shots from the free throw line.  She averaged 9.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 2.3 steals a game.  Shje had 19 blocks on the season.
